Bach and Handel.

  • Gleacher Center North Cityfront Plaza Drive Chicago, IL, 60611 United States (map)

Exact contemporaries, Johan Sebastian Bach and George Frederick Handel (both born in 1685) represent the pinnacle of Baroque art. This course will consider the intensity, poetry, and intellectual rigor of Bach’s secular masterpieces and his towering spiritual attainments together with Handel’s much more ostentatiously grandiose yet direct and communicative art, such as his inimitable oratorios and his orchestral concertos. Taken together, Bach and Handel offer a fascinating, comprehensive panaorama of the arts.

Thursdays, 10:00am - 12:30pm, October 8 - December 3. No class November 26.
